MC Interview: Congress party's 'Right to Apprenticeship' for youth will be a game-changer in LS polls, says Rajeev Gowda

Former Rajya Sabha member Gowda, who is contesting against Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje in North Bengaluru, says the soaring stock market does not accurately reflect the reality of the broader economy. He expects anti-incumbency to act against the BJP in the forthcoming polls.

Congress candidate for Bengaluru North Lok Sabha segment, Rajeev Gowda, wears multiple hats: public policy expert, economist, academician and politician.

Gowda served as a professor at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, ex-director on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India, and was a Rajya Sabha Member (2014-2020). He is now the Chairman of the Congress’s research department and the party's national spokesperson. He was also the convener of its manifesto committee for the 2019 election.

Last year, he was appointed as Vice-Chairperson with cabinet rank of the State Institute For The Transformation of Karnataka (state planning board). The 60-year-old Gowda, a Wharton graduate, hails from a traditional Congress family.

In his maiden election to the Lok Sabha, he is contesting against the Bengaluru North BJP candidate and Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje. Gowda spoke to Moneycontrol in the middle of his busy campaign schedule.
