Engineers' Day 2024: Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a name synonymous with engineering excellence and public service, continues to inspire generations. A civil engineer, statesman, and the 19th Diwan of Mysore, his contributions to India's development are immeasurable.

One of Visvesvaraya's most notable achievements is the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) dam in Mandya. This monumental engineering feat transformed barren lands into fertile agricultural fields, providing irrigation to vast tracts of land and becoming a vital source of drinking water for numerous cities.

Beyond his engineering prowess, Visvesvaraya was a champion of industrialisation and education. Sir M. Visvesvaraya was awarded the Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE) and later the Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (KCIE). In 1955, he received India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
