Who is Eligible to Apply?
The standard pathway to Japanese PR requires a continuous residence of at least 10 years, with a minimum of 5 years spent on a valid work or family-related visa. However, several accelerated pathways can significantly shorten this timeline for qualified applicants.
Fast-Track Options:
Japan's Point-Based Preference System offers a much quicker route for high-value talent. Under this system:
Applicants who score 70 points or more can apply for PR after just 3 years of continuous residence.
Those who achieve 80 points or more are eligible to apply in a remarkable 1 year.
Other Eligibility Pathways:
Marriage: Individuals married to a Japanese national or permanent resident for at least three years, with one year of continuous residence in Japan.
Long-Term Resident Children: Children of Japanese nationals or permanent residents after one year of continuous residence.
