In a significant move to enforce attendance regulations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revoked affiliation for 21 schools and downgraded 6 others in Delhi and Rajasthan. The decision follows surprise inspections conducted on September 3, 2024, which revealed widespread irregularities, including a high number of non-attending students.

The inspections targeted 27 schools affiliated with the board to ensure compliance with the Affiliation and Examination Bye-Laws, which emphasize regular student attendance. The CBSE identified "dummy schools" with inflated enrollment figures that did not reflect actual student participation.

"The vital observations of the Surprise Inspection Committees in regard of the irregularities observed during the inspections were communicated as a report to the respective schools. The replies submitted by the schools were examined in detail by the Board," the CBSE said in the notice.

Following the inspections, the CBSE issued show cause notices to the concerned schools, providing them with 30 days to address the observed discrepancies. After a thorough review of their responses, the board revoked affiliation for 21 schools – 16 in Delhi and 6 spread across Kota and Sikar in Rajasthan.
