Focus First: Prioritising Syllabus Completion and Practice
In the months leading up to the exams, Yatarth maintained a focused, goal-oriented routine. His primary aim was to finish the syllabus thoroughly and then shift to solving previous years' question papers. “There were days when I couldn’t meet the target, which was discouraging,” he recalled. Instead of getting stuck in self-doubt, he revised his study plan and made room for the topics he had missed. This adaptive mindset ensured he stayed on course without burnout.
Equal Time for All Subjects, Plus Timed Practice Tests
One of Yatarth’s most effective strategies was a detailed study plan made well in advance. He ensured equal time was allotted to all subjects and included dedicated revision slots. As the exams approached, he began solving past papers under timed conditions to simulate the real exam environment. But he didn’t stop there. Post-test analysis became a daily habit. “If I got a question wrong, I made sure to find the correct answer and understand it well so I wouldn’t repeat the same mistake,” he said.

Even the most well-organised students face mental fatigue. Yatarth was no exception. On off days, instead of forcing himself to study, he allowed time to unwind—through music or short walks. This helped him return to his desk with a clearer mind. During the final phase of revision, he avoided the common pitfall of trying to cover new topics and instead focused only on what he had already prepared.
Balanced Social Media Use—Not a Total Ban
When asked about social media distractions, Yatarth admitted he wasn’t entirely off it, but kept his usage in check. “After dinner, I’d spend a few minutes on social media. That was enough to feel connected without letting it eat into study time,” he said. This self-regulated approach helped him avoid FOMO while maintaining discipline.
A Message for ‘Average’ Students: Understand the Paper, Practise Hard
Yatarth’s advice for students who don’t see themselves as toppers is both simple and powerful: “Practice as many test papers as possible. Before you even begin preparation, take time to understand the paper pattern and identify frequently asked topics.” He believes that success in board exams isn’t about being a genius, but about showing up every day, staying consistent, and learning from mistakes.
