A flood-like situation erupted in several parts of Surat, Gujarat, after heavy rains lashed the city on Monday. Waterlogging led to traffic disruptions, and flood water even entered apartments on the ground floor, throwing normal life out of gear, The Free Press Journal reported.

After continuous rains, as several vehicles were found submerged in the water, many on social media were comparing the situation with the 2006 floods in the city.

As per the report, following the flood-like conditions, schools have declared a holiday. Dabholi and Varachha are among the worst-affected areas of the city. Meanwhile, a van was reportedly swept away by the turbulent Kharela River in the Valsad district.

 

In the last 24 hours, at least 159 talukas have received light to heavy rainfall. According to data released by the State Emergency Operations Centre, Jodiya in Jamnagar district recorded the highest rainfall at 7.17 inches, followed by Mendarda (5.7 inches), Amirgadh (5.0 inches), Keshod (4.9 inches), Kalavad (4.6 inches), and Palsana (5.6 inches), reported IANS.
