The Toyota Innova has completed 20 years in India. The popular MPV has cumulatively sold over 12 lakh units across its three offerings -- Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova HyCross -- since the initial launch in 2005.
The Innova has undergone changes in its design, features, and powertrain since its launch. In 2016, the company introduced the Innova Crysta, which brought a new design, engine options, and features. The introduction of the Innova HyCross in 2022 marked the brand's entry into self-charging hybrid electric technology.
At present, the MPV is offered in two versions -- Innova Crysta and Innova HyCross.
The Innova Crysta employs a 2.4-litre diesel engine, which generates 148hp of maximum power and 343Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no automatic transmission on offer. It is priced between Rs 19.99 lakh and Rs 27.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Innova Hycross comes with a 2.0-litre VVTi petrol engine, developing 172hp and 205Nm. The petrol motor is mated to a CVT automatic. Then there is the 2.0-litre VVTi petrol engine with the fifth-generation strong hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) system, which churns out a combined maximum power of 184hp and peak twisting force of 188Nm with the motor torque at 206Nm. The hybrid unit is mated to an e-drive sequential shift.
The Innova Hycross, which recently scored a 5-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP, sits in the price bracket of Rs 19.94 lakh and Rs 32.58 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Innova, produced at Toyota's Bidadi facility, is used for both daily transport and long-distance travel across the country. The Bidadi facility has two plants, with a combined installed capacity of up to 3,42,000 units per year.
