The mid-size SUV segment has witnessed back-to-back arrival of two new models -- the Tata Sierra 2026 and the new Kia Seltos. Few months ago, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris entered the market. However, despite the introduction of fresh vehicles, this space has continued to witness the dominance of the Hyundai Creta.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) launched the Sierra 2026 in the country on November 25. While the starting price is Rs 11,49,000 (ex-showroom), we are still awaiting the price of the top-spec variant.
Kia India unveiled the Seltos 2026 on December 10 with the prices set to be announced on January 2. Maruti Suzuki India introduced the Victoris on September 15 with the SUV sitting in the price bracket of Rs 10,49,900 to Rs 19,98,900 (ex-showroom).
Although the sales of the Sierra 2026 and the Seltos 2026 are yet to start, the Victoris has clocked 30,057 units from September till November. The old Seltos has posted 66,831 units from January till November.
If we compare the last month sales of the Seltos, Victoris and Creta, the old Seltos was at 6,305 units, while the Victoris performed better at 12,300 units. However, the Creta again led the mid-size SUV space at 17,344 units.
The absolute dominance of the Creta in its segment can be gauged from the fact that it has witnessed sales of 1,87,968 units from January till November and, for the first time, is on its way to cross the annual domestic sales mark of 2,00,000 units.
The second best performer in the mid-size SUV segment in 2025 (January-November) is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara at 95,612 units, followed by the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder at 78,688 units.
The interesting fact is that the Creta is not dominating only in its own segment. It is the second largest-selling car in India year-to-date in 2025, only behind the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (1,95,416 units), but ahead of popular models like the Tata Nexon (1,81,186 units), Maruti Suzuki WagonR (1,79,663 units) and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (1,75,439 units).
Among the five best-selling cars in India this year, the Creta is the most expensive, with its internal combustion engine (ICE) version priced between Rs 10,72,593 and Rs 20,19,862 (ex-showroom), and the Creta Electric between Rs 18,02,200 to Rs 24,69,500 (ex-showroom).
The Creta offers a broad mix of engines, transmissions and variants. Its consistently extensive feature list, along with Hyundai's service network, reliability and strong resale performance, contributes to sustained buyer confidence. Its long-established reputation in the market also supports long-term demand.
