The sedan segment is struggling. There are just a handful of options, and more buyers are opting for SUVs. Despite headwinds, one model has performed extremely well. You might be thinking it is the Honda City, Hyundai Verna or even Volkswagen Virtus. However, that one model is none other than the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
While most of the sedans are taking a hit so far as their volumes are concerned, the Dzire seems to be unstoppable. It was the country's largest-selling car in July 2025 at 20,895 units. Selling over 20,000 units in a month is a big achievement for any model. But for a sedan, it is even bigger as the segment itself is shrinking.
Just for reference, the Dzire performed handsomely in the previous months as well. It clocked sales of 16,996 units in April 2025, 18,084 units in May 2025, and 15,484 units in June 2025.
A regular among the 10 largest-selling cars in the country, the Dzire registered sales of 1.65 lakh units in FY25 and was ahead of popular SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Kia Sonet.
Priced between Rs 6.84 lakh and Rs 10.19 lakh (ex-showroom), the Maruti Suzuki Dzire faces off against competitors such as the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor in the compact sedan segment.
On the outside, the Dzire features a sleek front grille, LED Crystal Vision headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED taillamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna and a boot-lid spoiler.
Inside, the cabin gets a dual-tone dashboard with wooden inserts. The feature list includes a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Arkamys sound system, 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, cruise control, electric sunroof, rear AC vents, rear armrest and Suzuki Connect telematics.
The sedan is based on Maruti's fifth-generation Heartect platform, which uses 45% high-tensile steel. Safety equipment offered as standard includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, brake assist, three-point seatbelts, Isofix mounts and a rear defogger. The Dzire is also Maruti's first model to secure a 5-star rating in both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP crash tests.
Powering the Dzire is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine (Z12E) producing 81.58PS and 111.7Nm, available with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. A CNG version is also offered, generating 69.75PS and 101.8Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Fuel efficiency is rated at 24.79kmpl for the petrol manual, 25.71kmpl for the petrol AMT and 33.73kmpkg for the CNG manual.
