Kia India has revealed the Carens Clavis EV range ahead of its launch in the country on July 15. The maiden mass-market electric model of the Korean brand in the domestic market has a range of close to 500 km on a single full charge.
According to Kia, the Carens Clavis EV range with a 51.4 kWh battery pack is 490 km (ARAI-certified). We expect the electric MPV to also get a smaller 42 kWh battery pack.
Although the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to share the battery packs with the Hyundai Creta Electric, an interesting point to be noted here is that the latter has a lower claimed range of 473 km with the 51.4 kWh battery pack.
The exterior design of the Carens Clavis EV is similar to that of the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the MPV. However, there are several EV-focussed tweaks like a charging port instead of a front grille and EV-specific alloy wheels.
The cabin layout of the EV is also similar to that of the ICE version, with dual-tone interiors. There are features like a 26.62-inch dual panoramic display panel for infotainment and instrument cluster, front ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and panoramic sunroof. As of now, only the 7-seater model has been teased. We also expect the Carens Clavis EV to get Level-2 ADAS.
The Carens Clavis EV price is expected to be below Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant. For reference, the Creta Electric is priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 24.38 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kia Carens Clavis EV will take on the MG Windsor EV, which sits in the price range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia currently sells two premium EVs -- EV6 SUV and the EV9 SUV. While the EV6 is priced at Rs 65.96 lakh (ex-showroom), the EV9 is available for Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom). Both are CBU models.
