Trump signs order to launch 'Genesis Mission': How US plans to use AI to speed up discoveries | Explained

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order creating the “Genesis Mission”, a large-scale government initiative designed to use artificial intelligence to speed up scientific discovery across key sectors.

The order directs the Department of Energy to develop a unified AI platform that will bring together federal scientific data, supercomputers, national laboratories and private sector partners. The White House described the project as comparable in ambition to the Apollo space programme and the Manhattan Project.

Michael Kratsios, who heads the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the mission is aimed at improving coordination between government agencies and using AI more effectively to drive scientific progress.
