India has called for renewed global efforts to achieve a two-state solution to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, emphasizing the importance of “purposeful dialogue and diplomacy” amid a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Speaking at the High-Level International Conference on "The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of The Two-State Solution" held in New York, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, underlined the urgent need to bring both sides to the negotiating table.
India also expressed grave concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, including the growing threat of famine.
The ambassador reaffirmed India’s longstanding support for a two-state solution, with both Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders.
"Humanitarian assistance is vital in sustaining life and must remain outside the realm of politics or conflict... India has also been clear on the measures that must be undertaken in the short-term - An immediate ceasefire, sustained and unimpeded humanitarian assistance, release of all hostages, and the path of dialogue and diplomacy. There are no alternatives to these measures," he said.
"We appreciate the efforts of all friendly states that have facilitated such measures between the parties," he added.
He also stressed the urgent need to prioritize humanitarian aid, calling for the unhindered delivery of essential supplies such as food, fuel, and basic necessities to Gaza.
“Our efforts must now focus on how to bring about a two-state solution through purposeful dialogue and diplomacy, and bringing the parties to the conflict to engage directly with each other."
Speaking about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he described the situation as "dire," with tens of thousands killed, many injured, and medical facilities destroyed. He also highlighted that children have been out of school for over 20 months and emphasized that aid must flow without impediments.
"Tens of thousands have been killed, and many more injured. Several medical facilities have been damaged or destroyed. Children have been deprived of schooling for more than 20 months. Humanitarian aid needs to flow without impediments," he said.
