Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear sites were conducted in “full coordination” with Israel, framing the attack as a continuation and culmination of Israel’s military campaign.
His remarks came hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “very successful attack” on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.
“A short time ago, in full coordination between me and President Trump, and in full operational coordination between the IDF [Israeli army] and the United States military, the United States attacked Iran’s three nuclear facilities,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, as reported by The Times of Israel.
He added that the U.S. “continued, with greater intensity and with great force, the attacks of the IDF and the Mossad on Iran’s nuclear program,” which he claimed threatened Israel’s existence and endangered global peace.
In a Hebrew-language video address to the Israeli public, Netanyahu said the strikes fulfilled a promise he made earlier this month when Israel launched its own offensive against Iran, known as Operation Rising Lion. “At the beginning of the operation, I promised you that Iran’s nuclear facilities would be destroyed, one way or another. This promise was kept,” he said.
Netanyahu also said Trump called him immediately after the operation to congratulate him, the Israeli army, and the Israeli people. “He congratulated me, he congratulated our army, and he congratulated our people,” Netanyahu said, describing the exchange as a “very warm and moving conversation.” He called Trump “a great friend of Israel, a friend like no other,” according to Al Jazeera.
The strikes mark a significant escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict and follow Israel’s earlier attacks on suspected nuclear infrastructure.
Iran has denied that its nuclear program is intended for weapons development, insisting it is for peaceful energy and research purposes. Iranian officials have accused Israel and the U.S. of unprovoked aggression and warned of consequences, as reported by Reuters.
As the situation unfolds, global concern is rising over the potential for a wider regional war. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged restraint and called for a return to diplomacy, warning that continued escalation could have “catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world.”
