Shutdown threatens delays and disruptions

If a U.S. government shutdown lasts for an extended period, it could significantly disrupt travel, causing longer airport security lines, flight delays, and even cancellations.

The shutdown officially began on Wednesday after President Donald Trump and Congress failed to reach an agreement on continued government funding. As a result, the majority of personnel responsible for maintaining airport operations and overseeing air travel are now working without pay until the government is funded again.

“The longer a shutdown drags on, the more likely we are to see longer TSA lines, flight delays and cancellations, national parks in disrepair and unnecessary delays in modernizing travel infrastructure," said Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, in a statement.
