For generations of Indian movie lovers, Switzerland has been more than just a travel destination — it’s a cinematic fantasy. Think chiffon sarees fluttering against snow-draped peaks, emerald meadows, and mirror-clear lakes that seem to belong to another world. From Silsila and Chandni to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra immortalised the European wonderland on the silver screen, turning it into a pilgrimage site for romantics and dreamers alike.

And now, veteran actor Anupam Kher, who has been part of many Yash Raj classics, has rekindled this magic through his recent vacation in Switzerland. His social media diary from the trip — brimming with snowy adventures, heartfelt reflections, and cinematic nostalgia — captures the timeless allure of the Swiss Alps.

At the “Top of Europe”: Jungfrau’s Timeless Beauty

In one of his viral videos, Kher can be seen braving icy winds atop Jungfrau, a peak in the Bernese Highlands often called the “Top of Europe”. Surrounded by dazzling snowfields and shimmering glaciers, Jungfrau is home to some of Switzerland’s most breathtaking landscapes — from the roaring waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen Valley to serene alpine lakes like Bachalpsee.

Kher’s caption paid a touching tribute to Bollywood’s leading ladies who filmed song sequences here in freezing temperatures. “Hats off to all the Indian actresses who did song sequences here in just chiffon Sarees in -7 degrees! That is also dedication! I was finding it difficult to stand there wearing five layers of clothes!”, he wrote with characteristic humour.
