Elon Musk has just confirmed that the X app, formerly known as Twitter, is finally making its way to desktop computers. In a tweet, Musk wrote, “We’re building both macOS and Windows apps. Can’t live in the browser forever!”
This means users will soon be able to access X through a dedicated app on their laptops and desktops, rather than using it only through web browsers. While X already has apps for iOS and Android, desktop users have long been limited to using the browser version.
Musk’s comment hints at a push to improve the user experience, especially for people who use X for work, content creation, or longer browsing sessions. A native app would likely offer better performance, new features, and possibly offline support — things the browser version can’t fully provide.
Although there’s no launch date yet, this announcement shows that Musk wants to turn X into more than just a social media platform. With upcoming features like payments and video calls, having a proper desktop app might be an important step in that direction.
For now, users will have to wait and watch as X moves closer to becoming a full-fledged "everything app."
