On January 30, the government announced plans to develop a generative AI model, looking to join the ranks of global players such like OpenAI's ChatGPT and China's DeepSeek, which recently took the tech world by storm with its low-cost AI assistant.

The initiative would be powered by the IndiaAI Compute Facility, which has secured 18,693 GPUs to drive the development of a Large Language Model (LLM) tailored specifically for India, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
