Meta-owned popular messaging platform, WhatsApp introduced the option to send HD photos or videos last year, which allowed users to share uncompressed media files with everyone. Now, Meta is introducing a new feature that lets users share HD photos or videos by default through chats.

This feature has started rolling out to iOS and Android users after being previously available only for beta users. With this update, WhatsApp users don't need to select HD mode every time while sharing media files with anyone. You can simply set HD quality by accessing the Media upload quality tab on the Storage and data section.

This feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo, about three months ago, and Android Police now claims that this feature is now widely available in WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.13.10. We also tested this feature on two Android and iOS smartphones and can confirm that the feature is available on both platforms.

While the HD media file-sharing option offers a significant improvement in image fidelity, it’s important to remember that with the HD option enabled, every video or photo shared on the app will consume more storage and data. Therefore, users with limited data plans may want to consider enabling this feature by default.
