WhatsApp has started rolling out a new typing indicator on the platform. The new indicator lets users know that someone is typing something. The feature is now rolling out to all users on both Android and iOS platforms via an update. The new typing indicator is available in both 1:1 and group chats.
WhatsApp new typing indicator: What has changed
If you use WhatsApp, you must be aware that the idea of typing indicator is not new. The platform always had the typing indicator. Earlier, the indicator was placed beneath the name and it used to read “Typing…”.
However, with the update, it has changed into a bubble with three dots (---) cue at the bottom of the chat screen as well as on the profile picture.
According to the company, the feature has been designed to enhance real-time engagement in chats. The feature makes it easier for users to see who is actively engaged in the conversation.
In the case of group chats, the feature allows users to identify who is present and typing at the moment.
WhatsApp Voice message transcript
WhatsApp has recently introduced a Voice message transcript feature on both Android and iOS. The feature automatically transcribes a received voice message within chats. The feature is currently available in the English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian languages. However, we expect the company will expand the supported language list soon.
