WhatsApp is gradually rolling out a new design for iOS users based on Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, bringing a modern and more fluid visual style to the popular messaging platform. Although Meta has not made an official announcement yet, several users have reported seeing the updated design in the latest WhatsApp release.
The new look introduces subtle transparency effects, particularly noticeable in the tab bar, giving the app a polished and more integrated appearance with iOS 18’s overall design language. In addition to the aesthetic upgrade, the recent update also adds support for Live Photos and on-device translation for text messages, further enhancing the user experience.
According to WABetaInfo, this rollout appears to be part of a limited test phase ahead of a wider public release. Meta reportedly began experimenting with Liquid Glass in beta builds last month, and some users on the stable version are now seeing the design live.
Due to WhatsApp’s massive user base, such major interface changes are typically deployed in stages to ensure stability and feedback collection. As a result, not all iPhone users will see the new design immediately. The company’s release notes also confirm that new features can take several weeks to reach all users globally.
The move aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of harmonising WhatsApp’s design language with iOS’s evolving aesthetic while keeping performance smooth and responsive. Once fully rolled out, the Liquid Glass redesign will mark one of the biggest visual changes to WhatsApp in years.
