DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn has debunked the claims made in a report that there could be a Batman game set in director Matt Reeves' ‘The Batman’ film universe, that rebooted the Batman franchise with 2022's The Batman.

A report by Puck News had said that there could be a game based on HBO’s upcoming The Penguin TV series, which is set in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman film universe that introduced us to Robert Pattinson’s young, inexperienced and rage-fueled Bruce Wayne. But James Gunn has quashed such claims by stating on Threads: "Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever."

HBO’s The Penguin TV show, in which Colin Farrell will reprise his role as the Gotham crime boss, is set in the ‘Battinson-verse’ and will be released on September 19. Those waiting for The Batman II have something to look forward to before the long wait for The Batman II ends as The Penguin will tie in directly to The Batman II.

The Batman II is expected to release in 2026, though nothing has been confirmed yet about the release timeline. Robert Pattinson will return as Batman in The Batman II, however.
