Sony is set to introduce its new Xperia 1 VII flagship smartphone soon, as the company has confirmed it will host a launch event, scheduled for next week. The purported handset was also recently spotted on a benchmarking website and will arrive as a successor to the Sony Xperia 1 VI, which was introduced in select global markets in May 2024.
Sony Xperia 1 VII: Launch timeline, expected specifications
Sony has confirmed via the social media platform X that a new Xperia phone will launch on May 13 at 4 AM CEST (10 PM IST). It will be streamed live on the company’s YouTube channel as well. The promotional poster teases the upcoming product and reveals a silhouette of a handset, which is expected to be the Xperia 1 VII.
Recently, a Sony smartphone with the model number Sony XQ-FS54, had appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. It is expected to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC paired with 12GB of RAM, and could run on Android 15. The phone was also certified by the US FCC, revealing it could come with a 4850mAh minimum / 5000mAh typical battery for the phone, which is similar to last year’s Sony Xperia 1 VI.
Further, the Xperia 1 VII could sport a 6.5-inch Full-HD+ Bravia-tuned OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. It is also likely to get a 48MP primary Sony Exmor T camera, alongside a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera (70-200mm focal length). For selfies and video calls, the handset may house a 12MP sensor.
