A new report from Android Headlines claims that Oppo, OnePlus’s parent company under the wider BBK umbrella, may be preparing to shut down the OnePlus smartphone business altogether.
OnePlus has come out strongly and denied any such rumours. Robin Liu, CEO, OnePlus India, in a post on X, said, "I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so.
Never Settle."
Furthermore, an official OnePlus handle on X also moved to deny any rumours. "Recent unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false. OnePlus India's business operations continue as normal. We urge all stakeholders to verify information from official sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims."
What did the rumours claim?
According to the report by Android Headlines, OnePlus has been struggling to maintain market share for several years, with particular challenges in India and China. It claims that even a reported $14 billion cash injection from Oppo failed to reverse the brand’s fortunes. The alleged cancellation of upcoming devices, including the OnePlus 15s and the OnePlus Open 2 foldable, is cited as further evidence that the company may be scaling back or preparing to walk away from new handset launches entirely.
As per the report, the situation is complicated by recent developments within Oppo’s wider business. Earlier this year, Oppo announced that it was reintegrating Realme as a sub-brand, a move that fuelled speculation about broader restructuring. Around the same time, tipster Yogesh Brar suggested that changes were also coming to OnePlus, without providing specifics.
More recently, Brar hinted on X that a “popular brand” was facing internal issues, ending a post teasing a 200MP OnePlus flagship with a vague but ominous “But…”. Separately, reports from Taiwan last week claimed that an arrest warrant had been issued for OnePlus CEO Pete Lau over alleged business practices, adding another layer of uncertainty.
