Roblox to implement kid safety measures

Online video game platform Roblox has blocked children under 13 years of age from accessing unrated experiences. From next year, kids below 13 years of age will “not be able to play, search and discover” unrated experiences. The latest move from Roblox, outlined in a post on the official Roblox developers forum, aims to prevent the exploitation of kids and make the platform safer for them.

“By default, users under the age of 13 will not be able to play, search, and discover unrated experiences. This will ensure that parents and users have more clarity into the types of content available on Roblox and will help them make more informed choices about what they want to play”, the developers announced in the post.

All creators are henceforth required to complete a questionnaire for each experience they want for kids under 13. All unrated experiences will thus get filtered out of search and any public or recommended sorts for users under 13.

In addition to filling out the questionnaire, creators “must ensure that all information (such as thumbnail, title, and description) on their experience details page for each experience is appropriate for all users, by meeting either the All Ages or 9+ age recommendations”.
