In its long-standing commitment to preserving and sharing the history of the LGBTQ+ community, Google is celebrating this Pride Month with a range of new features and announcements.
Every year, June is designated as Pride Month to celebrate and amplify the lives of marginalised voices of the LGBTQ+ community. It is celebrated in commemoration of the LGBTQ+ roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. To celebrate this Pride Month, Google has announced new services and announcements to uplift the LGBTQ+ community.
Google’s Pride Month celebrations: All the new services and announcements
Collaborating with partners to preserve LGBTQ+ history: Google has collaborated or partnered with various LGBTQ+ organisations to continue investing in their crucial work to preserve LGBTQ+ history and culture.
Highlighting LGBTQ+ movies and shows on Google TV: During this entire month, Google has curated LGBTQ+ movies and shows in collaboration with GLAAD. There will be a separate section to watch these shows on Google TV.
New curated content on the Google Play Store: Google has also curated collections of apps, games, books, and audiobooks that celebrate the LGBTQ community. Moreover, it has themed this content with Pride Month colours highlighting the diversity and creativity.
Spotlighting LGBTQ+ creators on YouTube: YouTube has also created a new section dedicated to music and videos from LGBTQ+ artists.
New AR effects on Google Meet: Google has added two new Google Meet Pride AR effects. In addition, Google Chrome has also partnered with LGBTQ+ artists around the world to bring everyone personalised background options while interacting with different users on Google Meet.
In addition to all of these services, Google has also released various business profiles and locations in Google Maps to exclusively find LGTBQ+ spaces for dining, shopping, and more.
