Popular media streaming platform Netflix has announced that it will drop support for second and third-generation Apple TV devices soon. According to a report by MacRumors, the company has also started sending emails to its subscribers, informing them about this change.

The change is expected to happen after July 31. The report also points out that Netflix has taken this move to maintain the best possible Netflix experience. The second and third-generation Apple TV models came out more than a decade ago and also don’t have the availability of the App Store.

Hence, users of these TV models must upgrade to newer Apple TV models to continue watching Netflix shows or movies. Netflix has also updated its Help Centre Page and stated that these older TV models will have a complete shutdown of Netflix services from August 2024. They further stated, that to provide the “best possible Netflix viewing experience,” and because the hardware is pretty old, they had to take this decision.

Previously, Google had also ended its support for the YouTube app in 2021 for the Apple TV second and third-generation TVs, which were launched between 2010 and 2012. It is important to note that the third-gen Apple TV model powered by the A5 chip supports Full HD streaming.
