Mozilla is giving Firefox users more flexibility in how they search the web by integrating the AI-powered answer engine Perplexity. Rather than building a new browser with AI features, the company is letting users swap their default search engine for Perplexity, offering a conversational search experience directly within the browser.

The option was previously tested in select markets, including the U.S., U.K., and Germany, but Mozilla has now confirmed that it will be available to all desktop users globally. Mobile support is expected in the coming months. The rollout follows positive feedback from users during the pilot phase.

With Perplexity enabled, searches deliver direct answers with citations instead of a traditional list of links, providing a more streamlined and informative experience. Users can access it through the unified search button in the address bar and can also set Perplexity as their default search provider via Firefox’s settings.

Mozilla has indicated that it may introduce additional AI search engines in the future if the integration proves successful. The choice of Perplexity aligns with Mozilla’s privacy-focused approach, as the company does not sell or share users’ personal data.
