Microsoft Teams may soon be able to detect when you’re physically in the office and automatically update your location based on the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to. According to a new listing spotted on the Microsoft 365 roadmap by TechRadar, the upcoming feature will set an employee’s work location to reflect the specific office building once their device connects to the organisation’s internal Wi-Fi.

The feature is designed to help colleagues see whether someone is working remotely or on-site, reducing confusion around hybrid schedules. However, it also raises questions about privacy, as it would effectively remove the option for employees to work in untracked or private areas within office premises. Microsoft is reportedly targeting a global rollout for December 2025, with availability planned for both Windows and macOS versions of Teams.

More updates coming to Microsoft Teams
This addition is part of a wider set of productivity and AI-focused updates for Teams. Microsoft recently introduced a “Save message” feature that allows users to bookmark important chats and conversations, making it easier to find key information without endless scrolling.

Another upcoming feature will let users customise keyboard shortcuts in Teams, allowing quick access to frequently used icons, symbols, and functions.
