Microsoft is set to introduce ‘Startup Boost’, a new feature designed to enhance the performance and boost the loading time of its Office apps. This feature will run silently at the time of PC boot-up and will ensure that all the Office apps open faster. Windows will start rolling out ‘Startup Boost’ in May, and Microsoft Word will be the first app that will benefit from these preloading performance enhancements.

Microsoft shared the following message with IT admins, which you can also find in the Microsoft 365 Message Center Archive stating: “We are introducing a new Startup Boost task from the Microsoft Office installer to optimize performance and load-time of experiences within Office applications.”

The 'Startup Boost' feature will work by keeping the app in a paused state and keeping it running in the background. The sequence will either resume when the app is launched or will be stopped if the system needs to reclaim resources by removing it from memory.  It may also run periodically, depending on your system’s conditions.
