Meta has launched a standalone Meta AI app, expanding access to its AI assistant powered by Llama 4. Previously available only via integration within platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook, the new app offers a more personalised, voice-focused interface to interact with Meta AI. The company says this is the first version of the app and aims to improve it with user feedback.

The Meta AI app is designed to deliver a natural, helpful, and socially aware AI experience. Built on the Llama 4 model, the app allows both voice and text interactions. It can help users answer questions, get recommendations, generate and edit images, and more. The assistant becomes more personal over time, learning from what users choose to share across Meta platforms.
A key feature is the voice-based interaction, including a full-duplex speech demo that supports natural back-and-forth conversations. This speech technology lets Meta AI generate spoken responses directly, instead of reading out written answers. Users can toggle this feature on or off.
The app also includes a Discover feed that lets users explore AI use cases and remix community-shared prompts. Personalised responses are available in the US and Canada for users who’ve connected their Facebook and Instagram accounts via Accounts Centre.
How to download Meta AI app
The Meta AI app is currently rolling out in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Users can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, depending on their device. Existing Ray-Ban Meta glasses users will see the Meta AI app replace the Meta View companion app, with all data and settings transferring automatically.
Meta AI is also accessible via the web, with a redesigned desktop interface. It includes support for voice interactions and the Discover feed. The web version offers improved image generation tools and supports document editing and export as PDFs in select countries. Meta is also testing the ability to import and analyse documents through Meta AI.
