Social media platform Meta is soon set to join Sahyog Portal, the centralised platform of the Central government for processing takedown orders, sources told Moneycontrol.
Sources said that Meta is in the process of integrating the API necessary to onboard onto the Sahyog Portal. A few bugs in the API are being resolved currently, the integration is expected to go live in the coming few days.
On July 17, in a written submission made by the Centre (accessed by the Moneycontrol) at the Karnataka HC in the X vs Union of India case, the government stated that as many as 38 intermediaries have joined the portal.
These include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Telegram, Apple, ShareChat, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, Dot IN Registrars, Quora, Josh, Pi Data Centers, Sify, Oracle India, and others.
"Meta Inc. representing Facebook, Instagram and Whats App, is getting API based Integration with Sahyog to enable real-time action. The process of API Integration is in the advanced stage and likely and likely by the first week of April,2025 will be live. With this, Instagram Facebook & Whats App platforms will be onboarded on the Sahyog," the submission read.
Moneycontrol was not able to ascertain why April 2025 was given as the deadline for integration onto the portal when the submission was made on July 17.
"Owing to the significant benefits of the portal and appreciating the fact that the requests routed through the portal are well within the legal framework, there has been a positive response from the
intermediaries including significant intermediaries like Google, Meta, Microsoft etc., for onboarding on the SAHYOG," the submission added.
Sources also said that Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C, the nodal body under MHA responsible for Sahyog Portal, shot off a second letter to social media platforms on June 30 urging them to integrate with the platform. Moneycontrol had earlier reported about the first letter.
In the first letter, sent in May 2025, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) directed platforms to integrate with the Sahyog Portal and nominate nodal officers for real-time reporting of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
"Reference is drawn to the judgment of the Supreme Court, which underscores the statutory responsibilities of all stakeholders, including social media intermediaries, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). In this regard, all social media intermediaries are requested to onboard onto the Sahyog Portal, developed by I4C...," said the communication, a copy of which has been reviewed by Moneycontrol.
The portal has been a point of conflagration for microblogging platform X, who in their petition at Karnataka HC termed it as Censorship Portal and has refused to join it.
Particularly, X has raised objections of the usage of Sec 79 (3) (b) of the IT Act to issue takedown orders to platforms and urged the court to quash certain provisions of the IT Rules.
