The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a critical security warning for users of select Asus DSL series Wi-Fi routers. The agency has flagged a newly disclosed authentication bypass flaw that could allow remote attackers to gain unauthorised access to affected devices. The vulnerability, listed under CVE-2025-59367, affects multiple models used widely across homes, small offices, and SMB environments.
What CERT-In has warned
According to CERT-In, the vulnerability enables attackers to bypass security controls on targeted routers. Once exploited successfully, the flaw can give attackers direct access to the device interface, allowing them to view or modify configuration settings, intercept sensitive data, and compromise other devices connected to the network.
The affected Asus DSL router models include:
DSL-AC51
DSL-N16
DSL-AC750
The agency notes that the flaw poses critical risks to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of user systems. Because these routers are commonly deployed in homes, small offices, and SOHO setups, CERT-In warns that the attack surface is broad.
Impact on users
A successful exploit could allow remote attackers to monitor network traffic, intercept sensitive information, hijack connected devices, or alter router settings. In a worst-case scenario, attackers could use the compromised router as a base to launch further scams or intrusions, including accessing smart home devices or redirecting users to fraudulent websites.
CERT-In highlights that the vulnerability can be exploited without user interaction, making the risk significantly higher if the router is left unpatched.
What users should do
CERT-In has advised all affected users to update their router firmware immediately. Asus has published relevant security updates and advisories on its official website. Users can check for fixes and install the latest firmware by Asus' website. In addition to updating, CERT-In recommends standard security practices including disabling remote access if not needed, changing default passwords, and reviewing router logs for unusual activity.
