Amid reports on Foxconn not hiring married women in its manufacturing facilities, Bhavish Aggarwal, founder and managing director of Ola said that the firm will continue to employ women workforce for its new facilities and said that the firm does not have any policy to not hire married women.
"Women are more disciplined and dexterous. We will continue to hire women workforce within our facilities. We have no policies like Foxconn to not hire married women," Aggarwal said during a media briefing on June 29.
Foxconn, the supplier of the world's second most valuable company Apple, discriminates against married women by rejecting their job applications because "they have more family responsibilities than their unmarried counterparts".
This was revealed by a new Reuters investigation published on June 25.
The report said that the smartphone manufacturer systematically excluded married women from job opportunities at its main iPhone assembly plant located at Sriperumbudur, near the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu as the world's largest contract electronics maker felt they had "more issues post marriage".
Back in 2021, Ola Electric announced in a blogpost that it is employing an all-women workforce at its Future Factory facility in Bengaluru.
Once the plant reaches full capacity, it will have over 10,000 female employees, Aggarwal had said earlier.

Ola Electric has set up a new Gigafactory in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. For the newly built Gigafactory, Aggarwal said that it will follow the same process of employing women workforce.
"Women workforce in India is low and we are doing our part to solve this. While we right now hire for junior-level. We are also trying to hire more women employees for senior management as well," Aggarwal said.
