Google Cross-device services

Google has started rolling out Android cross-device services on supported Android devices. This feature allows a user to switch between devices when using certain apps or to perform certain tasks. The Cross-device service for Android was first announced by Google at its I/O developer conference in May.

However, according to a report by 9to5Google and a Google support page, Call casting and Instant hotspot sharing features are now available for selected devices running Android 11 or above OS version. With these services, Android users will be able to detect each other and it also allows switching of certain tasks. Let us take a look at both new features in detail.

Call casting

The Call casting service allows moving calls between your device and other nearby devices signed in to your Google Account. Currently, it is only supported on the Google Meet app, enabling you to cast video calls between Android phones, tablets, or desktop browsers. We can expect this feature to be rolled out for more Google communication apps soon.
