Google Maps is one of the most used applications for navigation through unknown places across the world. Currently, it supports various markers and icons to use as a marker for your current location while driving. However, many users want a representation of their vehicle as a marker instead of the default blue icon on Google Maps.
Google Maps may soon offer customized vehicle options
At the moment, we get four vehicle icons to choose from in the app, including the default blue arrow marker, a red car, a yellow SUV, and a green pickup truck. However, according to a new report by Android Authority, an upcoming update to the Google Maps app will include the option to choose from five new car models.
This could include a hatchback, a Jeep, and a car model that resembles a Tesla. Alongside these car options, Maps users would also get up to eight color choices, such as Glacier White, Night Black, Aqua Green, Poppy Red, and four more colour options. Moreover, these new icons will not replace the old ones. However, those old icons are not compatible with the colour-changing option, with these newer icons offering more customisation support.
Interestingly, this feature was spotted on Google Maps running on an iPhone 16 Pro, with no support for Android devices. This suggests that Google could roll out this feature in a limited-scope test first to iOS users, with Android users receiving it at a later date.
