After a year-long trial, Google is finally rolling out a new feature to the Play Store that allows Android users to ‘Auto-open’ apps immediately after the app is downloaded. It means that no extra taps are needed or to look out for the app icon after installation. The feature includes a brief five-second countdown notification, giving users the option to cancel the automatic launch of the app, and is designed to make app installations smooth.

As per a report from 9to5 Google, some Android phone users are starting to see the ‘Auto-Open’ toggle live on the Google Play Store. It appears beneath the install progress bar as soon as the download of an is initiated. By default, the feature is turned off, so users need to manually enable it for each app till they wait for the download to complete.
Once activated, the toggle ensures that the app opens automatically after installation, but not instantly. However, users will also receive a notification with a five-second countdown before the app opens, allowing them to cancel the automatic launch if needed. It essentially removes the extra step of navigating to the app drawer or the home screen, after every download.
This new tool is a part of Google’s ongoing effort to make app management feel simple and streamlined. Instead of long menus or multiple steps, the ‘Auto-Open’ feature allows quick access to apps, directly after installation. It is currently being rolled out in phases, and users may need to wait for upcoming Play Store or system updates before they see the toggle on their Android device.
