Gears of War: E Day, the next Gears of War game, will have original voice actors of The Coalition’s popular third-person action shooter series lending their voices to Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago once again, developer The Coalition confirmed in a post on X.
Longtime Gears of War voice actors John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro will reprise their roles as Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago respectively in Gears of War: E Day, the upcoming prequel to Gears of War (2006). Developer The Coalition confirmed the two voice actors for the upcoming Gears of War prequel on the 18th anniversary of the Gears of War franchise.
Gears of War E-Day: Marcus and Dom witness the invasion of the Locust Horde
Gears of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the events of the first Gears of War game. E-Day means Emergence Day in Gears of War lore; it’s the day when the monsters of the Locust Horde -a race of genetically changed humans–come out of the subterranean depths to take over the planet of Sera, a fictional planet that’s very similar to Earth. Nearly a quarter of the human population dies within the first 26 hours of the invasion of the Locust Horde.
Before the invasion, humans of Sera had been fighting over an energy source called Imulsion. They were divided into the warring groups of The Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) and Union of Independent Republics (UIR). But they got war-weary after fighting for 79 years, a drawn-out conflict known as the Pendulum Wars.
The young heroes Marcus and Dom, who’ve fought in the Pendulum Wars as COG commandos, witness the terrible events of E-Day. Marcus barely survives the ferocious attack of a Locust Drone himself, as shown in the game trailer.
Since Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel, we expect the story to show how the bond between Marcus and Dom developed and deepened over time. A prequel Gears of War game also gives the creators the freedom to introduce new characters to the iconic action franchise. If Gears of War: E-Day is received well, maybe they could take it from there to make more games featuring the new characters.
Gears of War: E-Day will be published by Xbox Game Studios. There is no release timeline for the game yet.
