When Samsung introduced Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24, the focus was on a handful of assistive features like live translation and Circle to Search. A year later, the company says AI has become a core layer that runs through calling, messaging, browsing, and even personalisation on its smartphones. At the centre of this evolution is Samsung R&D Institute India – Bangalore (SRI-B), one of the company’s largest global R&D hubs.

Mohan Rao Goli, CVP and Managing Director of SRI-B, told Moneycontrol that the real value of AI lies not just in advanced features, but in how it enhances the basic functions of a smartphone.

“Calling, messaging, browsing, and connecting are all part of what we call native experiences,” Rao said. “If AI improves these daily native experiences, people will like it and their productivity will improve.”

He explained that one of the standout use cases is improving call quality in noisy environments. “When you are having a meaningful conversation and suddenly there’s a lot of background noise, you just click on Voice Focus and get crystal-clear voice quality,” he said.
