Donald Trump's shooter used an Android phone by this brand, FBI cracks in 40 minutes

The FBI also revealed that it used Israel-based digital intelligence company Cellebrite software to unlock the phone. The first attempt to block the shooter’s phone was unsuccessful.

The FBI successfully unlocked the Android phone belonging to the individual who shot at former US President Donald Trump. According to a report by Bloomberg, the investigative agency managed to crack the device in 40 minutes.

Last week, Thomas Crooks shot at Trump at a public rally in in Pennsylvania. Now, the FBI has revealed that Crooks was using a “newer Samsung model that runs Android’s operating system.”  It’s not mentioned which exact model was he using.

The FBI also revealed that it used the Cellebrite software to unlock the phone. The first attempt to block the shooter’s phone was unsuccessful but then the FBI used Cellebrite to unlock the device. As per the report, the software gave authorities access “additional technical support and new software that was still being developed.” With this new software, the FBI managed to unlock the phone in just 40 minutes.

Cellebrite is an Israel-based company which develops tools designed to unlock smartphones and access the personal data stored within them using various techniques. The company states that it exclusively sells these tools to law enforcement agencies and other organisations that it trusts to use the equipment legally and ethically.
