Now, Cognition AI, the company behind the AI coding assistant Devin, has stepped in. They’ve officially signed a deal to buy Windsurf’s product, intellectual property, brand, and most importantly, its team.

“We’ve long admired Windsurf and what they’ve built,” said Scott Wu, Cognition’s co-founder. According to him, this deal isn’t just about adding a product, it’s about building the future of software engineering, where AI takes over repetitive tasks and lets humans focus on creativity.
