Google is testing a new experimental feature – AI-powered History Search – in Chrome. The feature allows users to search their browsing history using natural language. Instead of needing specific keywords or URLs, you can now search with everyday phrases like “Where was that restaurant I looked at last week?” or “vegetarian biryani recipes.” This feature stores website URLs, titles, and content locally in encrypted form, allowing for AI-powered search queries.

How to enable Chrome AI history search
Open Chrome Settings
Click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of your browser.
Go to Experimental Features
In the settings menu, select “Experimental AI.”
Enable History Search
Turn on the “History search, powered by AI” option.
Once enabled, AI history search only applies to websites visited after activation, and you can search right from the address bar by typing "@history" followed by your query.

Things to keep in mind
Google will store the history data locally, but some information, such as search terms and model outputs, may be sent to Google to improve the feature, which could involve human reviewers. Keep in mind that saving website content may slightly affect Chrome's performance. If needed, you can disable this feature anytime through Chrome settings.
Currently, this feature is available only in the US and requires Chrome to be in English.
