According to Downdetector, around 22,000 users reported the issue and many reported the outage on the social media platform, X.
OpenAI has acknowledged the outage
OpenAI has confirmed the outage through its Status page. The company first reported the issue at 20:28 PST on February 5, 2025, stating that it was investigating the problem. This was followed by updates at 20:36 PST and 20:44 PST, with OpenAI mentioning that it was continuing to investigate while observing signs of recovery in API and Sora services.
According to Downdetector, the outage began at 9:14 AM IST and has continued for several hours. Many users reported that they were unable to access ChatGPT’s web platform and mobile app. The issue also extended to OpenAI’s API, which affected developers and businesses that integrate ChatGPT into their applications.

OpenAI has not disclosed the specific reason behind the disruption. The company has only stated that it is actively investigating the problem and the fix has already been implemented.
