ChatGPT appears to be facing an outage in India and other regions across the globe. The outage appears to have affected OpenAI’s ChatGPT services on both the app and web across all platforms. Apart from this, users have also reported that the chatbot is either not loading or failing to generate responses. Downdetector, the outage tracking platform, has also received several reports around the same time. As per the platform, people started reporting the downtime starting at around 1:04 PM (IST) on October 6, 2025, indicating a significant disruption to the AI service.
User complaints surge
As per Downdetector’s live outage map, most reports came from ChatGPT users, accounting for nearly 82% of all problem submissions. The web browser version made up 12% of reports, while the mobile app saw around 6%. The outage graph shows a dramatic rise from near-zero incidents to over 770 reports in less than an hour.
Users on social media and forums have echoed similar frustrations. Several reported “error in message stream” and “something went wrong” pop-ups while trying to start new chats or refresh existing conversations. Others complained of extremely slow response generation or no replies at all.
One user on Downdetector commented, “Not working (no responses displayed). Mozilla Firefox: Working fine,” while another added, “Not slow for me. I am not even getting a response lol.” Many others shared that ChatGPT was either timing out or showing “too many concurrent requests.”
OpenAI has not yet acknowledged the outage
As of now, OpenAI has not issued an official statement regarding the disruption. The company’s status page and social channels remain silent on the cause of the outage or the expected time of resolution.
