After “A Plague Tale: Innocence” and “A Plague Tale: Requiem”, French video game developer Asobo Studio has revealed that it is working on a third title in the action-adventure survival franchise called “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy”. The developer recently announced the next instalment in the “A Plague Tale” universe during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025.
A standalone adventure
As per the developer, “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” is a standalone title in the A Plague Tale universe, and it is not necessary to play the first two games to enjoy it. “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” is also not a sequel to “A Plague Tale: Requiem”.
Sophia is the main character
Asobo Studio’s next “A Plague Tale” game is centred on Sophia, a character seen in “A Plague Tale: Requiem”, and expands upon her storyline. Sophia is “a true fighter, lethal with her sword and dagger”, but “every wound she receives can also be fatal.”
Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy: Setting
The story of “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” is set 15 years before the events of Requiem. At this time, Sophia is a member of a plunderer’s gang.
David Dedeine, Co-founder & Creative Director, Asobo Studio, said in a post on Xbox Wire, “While trying to understand her past, gaining control over her destiny, she finds herself at the heart of the mythical Minotaur’s island, hunted by numerous enemies.” In the ruins of the island, Sophia will learn about an ancient evil linked to the macula.
“Players will have to be extra perceptive to solve the riddles and escape the presence hunting them through the depths of the island.”, he added.
Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy: Sophia gameplay
Sophia is an “experienced and fierce” fighter with “a range of tricky moves” up her sleeve. The combat possibilities will increase as Sophia discovers more items on the island.
“By analyzing the situation correctly, players can execute a well-placed kick to open a gap in a shielded enemy’s defence, perform a perfectly timed dodge to destabilize tougher enemies, or even improvise by taking advantage of the environment.”, the developer said in the blog post.

"Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy" is set to land on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2026, and will be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.
