After launching the iPhone 16 series and its new M4-powered MacBook lineup recently, Apple is planning to unveil a completely redesigned MacBook Pro in 2026. In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple plans to overhaul the MacBook Pro lineup in 2026. The report also states that the 2025 models will only receive chip upgrades to M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chipsets, without significant design changes.
Apple’s 2026 MacBook Pro series: Expected changes
According to Gurman, Apple's 2026 MacBook Pro lineup is expected to feature OLED screens, ditching the mini-LED display that Apple has been using in its MacBook lineup over the last few years. With the transition to OLED displays, the laptop is expected to come with a thinner design.
The 2026 redesign may also coincide with the introduction of Apple's M6 chip series, which Gurman notes will be manufactured using 2-nanometer process technology, promising substantial performance improvements and battery life upgrades over previous generations’ processors. This means that until at least 2025, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will stick with mini-LED displays, which was previously predicted by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and display expert Ross Young.
The report also indicates that the MacBook Pro 2025 models will come with a new M5 chipset. However, they will likely be just another chip upgrade, with a total redesign planned in 2026.
