Apple Watch has saved many lives, including that of Tim Cook’s father. In yet another incident, an Apple Watch came to the rescue of a skier who would have probably frozen to death if it weren’t for the Watch. He fell 1,000 feet down a snowy slope in the middle of nowhere.
As soon as his watch detected a hard fall, its Emergency SOS feature kicked in. The skier didn’t have to do anything—the Watch sent an alert to responders all by itself, along with his exact location.
According to a 9to5Mac report, rescuers used the precise GPS location from the Watch to find the skier before the cold claimed another victim.
The skier was rushed to safety and treated for his injuries. Rescuers later said the Apple Watch played a key role in saving his life.
If you don’t know about Apple Watch’s life-saving features yet, it includes options like Fall Detection and Emergency SOS. If it senses a sudden fall or crash, it can call for help—even if you’re not in a condition to make a call. It’ll also notify your emergency contacts. In this case, that technology worked exactly as it should.
This story is just another reminder of how tech can make a difference. For this skier, his Apple Watch wasn’t just a gadget—it was a lifeline when he needed it most.
