More than three months after the presentation of the new updates during the WWDC 24 keynote, Apple has released the stable versions of its latest operating systems for its peripheral devices. Eligible device owners can now download and install the latest tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and HomePod Software 18.
You can update eligible devices to these software versions, but it's better to back up important data before installing these OS updates.
Apple tVOS 18, visionOS 2, HomePod Software 18 stable update released
With the tvOS 18 update, Apple has introduced support for 21:9 video format along with support for on-device Siri usage. Apple TV users can also access new screen savers on Apple TV, using portrait images in their iCloud library. The tvOS 18 also adds support for robot vacuums in the Apple Home app, which enables guest access for specific devices.
It also allows you to monitor home electricity usage. Apple has also ensured that subtitles now automatically appear at just the right moments for supported TV shows and movies. The supported TVs now support hands-free unlocking as well.
Although the Apple Vision Pro is the only device to support visionOS, Apple has now updated it with visionOS 2. It releases after the first major software update for the spatial computer was released a few months ago. The Vision Pro now lets users capture or create spatial photos that can be viewed on the headset. It also now lets you customize the arrangement of the home screen apps.
Lastly, Apple has released the HomePod Software 18 for HomePod and HomePod mini. It now comes with a SharePlay feature, allowing multiple people to share control of what's playing on a HomePod through Apple Music. The HomePods also now support Spatial Audio to provide an immersive sound experience when using AirPlay to stream music from and iPhone or iPad.
