Apple plans to introduce Meta-like smart glasses and AirPods with cameras in 2027: Report

Apple took the first stride in the augmented reality (AR) segment by launching the Vision Pro AR headset earlier this year. Although the product sold better than initially expected, the Cupertino-based tech giant has had an uphill battle to recoup the development cost, as it has a high asking price of close to $4000. Hence, the company now wants to recover its multibillion-dollar investment in Apple Vision Pro's visual intelligence by integrating the technology into additional products at a cheaper price tag.

According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to introduce smart glasses with built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones, similar to Meta's popular Ray-Ban smart glasses. Moreover, Apple’s Vision Products Group, which developed the first Vision Pro AR headset, is working on four more devices, including a new iPod with cameras.

All of these gadgets could potentially allow users to capture photos and videos, make calls, and interact with AR experiences overlaid on the real world. However, these products are still in development and possibly may be released by 2027.

Apart from smart wearable products, Apple is also working on a cheaper version of the Vision Pro headset. This device is expected to debut early in 2025 and it may cost somewhere between $1500 and $2500, and hence could generate much more sales with its cheaper price tag.
