Apple iOS update

Earlier this month, many Apple users complained that they were seeing deleted photos from years ago again in their photos library after installing the recently rolled out iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 update. This alarming bug stemmed from a corrupted database entry affecting a small number of photos, causing them not to be fully deleted from the device, as per multiple reports.

However, now Apple has acknowledged this issue and released a new iOS 17.5.1 update for iPhone and iPad users. Apple released a changelog that states: ”This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted.”

While many users have concerns and asked if this means Apple keeps our deleted photos, raising privacy concerns. However, Apple has assured iOS users that this is merely a bug and there should be no privacy concerns after this issue.

Apple has also described the fix as repairing the database handling mechanisms, ensuring that the photo library records of deletions are accurate, and preventing photos from reappearing in the photos library. Currently, photos that are deleted by the user, are moved to the Recently Deleted album and are deleted 30 days later.
