Apple has launched a service program for certain 2023 Mac mini models with the M2 chip that may experience a critical issue: they no longer power on.
The company says the problem affects “a very small percentage” of units manufactured between June 16, 2024, and November 23, 2024, and is offering free repairs for eligible devices.
If your Mac mini falls within the affected window and has experienced the no-power issue, Apple urges you to check your device’s serial number using the lookup tool on its support site. Devices that qualify will be serviced free of charge, either at Apple Stores or through Apple Authorised Service Providers.
This is a global repair program, though Apple notes that service may be restricted to the original country or region of purchase. That’s something international buyers or users who have moved countries may want to keep in mind.
Importantly, while the service is free, this initiative does not extend the Mac mini’s standard warranty. Instead, Apple says the program will cover eligible units for three years from the original retail sale date—giving customers a generous service window even if they’re out of the typical one-year warranty or AppleCare+ coverage.
The Mac mini with M2 was launched as part of Apple’s growing lineup of Apple Silicon-based Macs, praised for its compact size and performance-to-price ratio. Although Apple hasn’t specified the exact cause of the power failure, such programs are typically introduced only after a consistent hardware flaw has been identified.
If you own a 2023 Mac mini and are experiencing power issues, it’s worth checking your serial number now. Even if your device is still functional, this program could be a crucial safety net down the line.
